Requirements

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced fluid dynamics consultant to manage and execute a wide range of aerodynamic, hydrodynamic and thermodynamic related projects.  Typical projects will involve CFD analysis, validation, optimisation and theoretical calculations in support of the design, development, qualification and assurance of engineering products and systems.  We operate across a broad spread of markets including aerospace, nuclear gas turbine and defence.

Submarine Naval Architect

Job Description

We are looking for a Submarine Naval Architect who will take the lead in providing design and analytical consultancy services for a range of marine based projects with particular emphasis on those attributed to the submarine sector.

The ideal candidate will have a Naval Architecture background and ideally be familiar with design, manufacture, operation and maintenance of submarines for the MoD.

You will be a self starter with a flair for providing creative solutions to challenging problems.  You will also have the ability to manage a project team as well as the motivation to assist with the development of a business stream in the Marine Sector.

You will join our established mechanical design group who specialise in mechanical handling, special purpose equipment, test rigs and high value complex systems.

The role will involve taking responsibility for all aspects of design projects from initial proposals to delivery of completed designs.  You will use high end 3D CAD (Unigraphics NX) to create concept, scheme and detail designs on a variety of projects for the Aerospace, Gas Turbine and Renewable industries.  There is the opportunity to expand this into the Marine, Rail and Nuclear industries.

You will be undertaking technical and project orientated tasks within our engineering consultancy business or as an integral part of our client's project teams. 

The role will involve client contact throughout the project, defining work scope, holding technical meetings, preparing and delivering presentations, attending design reviews and producing technical reports. 

Initially you will manage tasks within projects to agreed costs and timescales, leading to the development of responsibility for projects as a whole.

Requirements

You will have an excellent first degree in an engineering related subject, coupled with design experience in a relevant industry. 

The ideal candidate will have experience of designing structures and mechanical systems for complex aerospace or gas turbine projects.  Specific experience in test facility design or designing with composites for large blue chip aerospace organisations would be a distinct advantage.

Following the recent and highly successful growth of our Human Factors Integration (HFI) consultancy business, we are looking to recruit additional Human Factors consultants into the business to enhance our capabilities in this area.  We would welcome applications from candidates who are looking for their first career move as well as more experienced Human Factors professionals.

As one of the UK's biggest providers of systems and engineering technology, we work across a number of diverse markets,  providing expertise to the defence, nuclear, power & energy, civil aerospace, rail, marine, petrochemical and industrial sectors.

You will be acting as a Human Factors consultant, both developing customer relationships as well as bidding and delivering Human Factors work programmes as part of multidisciplinary projects undertaken by our Systems Engineering teams.  You will also have the opportunity to undertake research into a range of Human Factors related topics directly for our clients.  There is also the potential, for the right candidate, to be able to progress towards a line management position. 

You will initially be based in our Bristol office, however geographical location can be flexible depending on your skills and experience.

Requirements

A degree level education (upper second class or above) in a Human Factors related degree.

This position requires an understanding of the role of HFI within Systems Engineering projects and the ability to plan and deliver Human Factors activities on engineering programmes.  We would be interested if you have experience of integrating the Human Factors domains within our other engineering and project related services.  

Experience across a wide range of Human Factors disciplines is required including:

  • Development of Human Factors Requirements
  • Task Analysis
  • Workspace Analysis
  • Human Machine Interface and Human Computer Interface Design
  • Human Performance Assessment Methods

You will have held a recent Human Factors position with either a consultancy business environment or an engineering organisation.

You will also have knowledge of the applicable standards for HFI along with an understanding of the role of HFI in the context of Systems Engineering.  

Essential Skills

Candidates must have the ability to develop HF strategies for complex systems, from both a technical and commercial perspective.

You will also have recent experience of delivering HF activities, particularly during the early concept and design stages of the project lifecycle.  At a more senior level, you will have experience of developing strategies for and managing the integration of HF within complex programmes, interfacing with all other project engineering disciplines. 

A good understanding and track record of undertaking formal HF analyses as applied to engineering programmes.

You will be developing customer relationships and executing work programmes within our Supportability and Reliability and Maintainability (R&M) consultancy business. 

This position requires experience in developing through life Supportability and R&M strategies on defence acquisition programmes and the ability to apply and deliver Supportability and R&M principles and processes to complex engineering systems. 

Requirements

You will have recent experience working within the defence sector on Supportability (including Integrated Logistic Support), Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and R&M engineering programmes.

Preferably you will have held a recent position within a consultancy business environment working as a Supportability, TNA and R&M engineer/consultant or held an Integrated Logistic Support/R&M post in the Ministry of Defence (MoD) or a defence contractor. 

You will have knowledge of the applicable MoD standards for Supportability, TNA and R&M along with an understanding of the role of Supportability, Training and R&M in the context of the MoD’s Acquisition Operating Framework. 

Ideally you will have experience of working on ISTAR or naval based systems. 

Essential Skills
  • Ability to develop Supportability, TNA and R&M strategies for complex equipment from both a technical and commercial perspective. 

  • Recent experience of managing and delivering Supportability, TNA and R&M activities during the concept, assessment, demonstration and manufacturing phases of MoD programmes. 

  • A good understanding and track record of undertaking formal Supportability, TNA and R&M analyses as applied to complex defence acquisition programmes (including Logistic Support Analysis tasks, failure analysis, whole life cost modelling, R&M case development, R&M modelling).

  • An understanding of the MoD’s support solution envelope.

The role will involve a number of services including fundamental acoustic design and troubleshooting through to the provision of advice on noise and vibration issues including legislative compliance. 

You will have experience of some or all of the following:

  • Noise and vibration exposure/health and safety
  • Noise control engineering
  • Acoustic radiation/propagation prediction techniques such as SEA, FE/BE
  • Leading noise and vibration measurement trials and surveys
  • Underwater Acoustics

You will be using a range of modelling software and experimental measurement equipment and therefore familiarity with noise modelling and analysis, noise survey techniques and data manipulation is a pre-requisite of this role.

Job Description

We are looking for engineers with experience in Stress Analysis, Structural Integrity, Materials Science, Dynamic/Seismic Analysis, Fatigue and Fracture Mechanics.  Additionally, ambitious graduates with an excellent academic record will be considered. 

The role offers opportunity to work on state-of-the-art projects for a large number of our clients, including energy, offshore, aerospace and defence companies.

Requirements

It would be useful if you were fully conversant with industry standard analysis methods and practices as well as the latest analysis tools and applications.  Our toolsets include ABAQUS, ABAQUS-Explicit, ANSYS and DYNA3D.

The ideal candidate will have a good degree or PhD in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a similar related subject.  We are looking for candidates with a fundamental appreciation of structures who understand how to use these tools and techniques to their limits.

Job Description

We are currently looking for an experienced nuclear safety consultant with a proven track record in either the civil generation, naval nuclear or decommissioning industries. 

Requirements

The successful candidate should have a degree in a relevant discipline and a proven track record with detailed knowledge within one or more of the following areas:

  • Safety management system development
  • Safety management planning
  • Safety case development and authoring
  • PSA
  • HAZOP/HAZAN
  • FTA/ETA
  • FMECA
  • GSN

The candidate will need to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of a key area of nuclear safety.

The candidate should have a desire to take technical leadership and project management responsibility for assigned safety consultancy projects.  These senior roles will involve the supervision and coaching of other staff, who will be supporting projects for which the individual is responsible. 

The position will provide the opportunity to help consolidate our existing key accounts and to develop other clients into key accounts.
