UK Sport, the nation’s elite sports agency, has awarded engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash ‘Innovation Partner’ status in recognition of their support of British athletes striving to win medals at the world’s biggest sporting events.
Frazer-Nash has been providing independent technical consultancy to UK Sport for the past three years, supporting the body in keeping the UK’s athletes, in sports such as rowing and diving, at the forefront of international competition. In receiving official ‘Innovation Partner’ status with UK Sport, Frazer-Nash is recognised as providing services that meet the world class standards of excellence in innovation required to support the UK’s best athletes and coaches.
The partnership will see Frazer-Nash providing bespoke engineering solutions to sports – from developing performance analysis software tools to the design of training aids and competition equipment – in preparation for the most significant events in their sporting calendar including World and European Championships, Summer and Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Dave Richards, Team Leader at Frazer-Nash, who leads the programme commented: “British Sport has set itself some ambitious targets for the coming years and the focus is now turning to ensuring that every sport in which Britain competes – be it swimming, cycling or rowing – is not only world class in terms of athletes’ skills, coaching tools and methods but also in terms of the equipment available for them to use.
“By becoming an Innovation Partner we will be working more closely with those involved in the sports – from the performance directors to the athletes themselves – to ensure that their tools and equipment use the best available techologies. This, coupled with the personal passion for sport that many of our staff share, means that we are well placed to build on the work we have already completed with UK Sport, to support the UK’s athletes in competition this summer and beyond.”
Research and Innovation Consultant at UK Sport, Dr Scott Drawer said: “Gold medals can be won or lost within fractions of seconds and our job is to ensure the athletes are in the best possible position to take advantage of those tiny margins. The knowledge and expertise that Frazer-Nash contribute is paramount to our work and we look forward to our working relationship going forward.”
