Support for Beijing Olympics

UK Sport Innovation Partner Frazer-Nash Consultancy has released information on how it has been helping the UK’s best athletes achieve sporting success.

The company has been involved in the design and analysis of unique custom tools for Britain’s canoeists, rowers, sailors, cyclists, and divers who competed this summer in the Beijing Olympic Games.
Items developed range from actual competition equipment to training devices and software models.

In cycling, Frazer-Nash-designed a special training bike that provides accurate race conditions on a stationary platform.  In addition, the company’s mathematical modellers developed advanced models of racing scenarios, allowing the development of optimum tactics.

For canoeing, engineering models were developed of the new 3.5m boats being used in Olympic competition for the first time, to ensure the correct structural strength.  A diving training harness designed by the company has been installed in three pools around the UK, allowing athletes to practice complex dives without the risk of injury.

Dave Richards, who’s led much of the design work at Frazer-Nash, said “It’s been an absolute honour to work with UK Sport and the incredible sports men and women they support.  We try to provide them with the best equipment possible, which is of course the least they deserve.  It’s wonderful to see how their dedication has led to such success”.
