| Lockheed Martin has selected Frazer-Nash Consultancy to be their safety case advisor for the Joint Strike Fighter F35Lightning II. JSF is the largest multinational fighter program in the world, with three variants under development for the US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, the UK Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, and many other allied defence forces world wide.
The JSF Joint Project Office has endorsed the safety case approach to demonstrate that the JSF is an acceptably safe system, a vital component in gaining certification and a 'release to service'. The safety case is an approach championed by the UK MoD, which is widely seen to have the best practise safety process for military equipment.
Developing a safety case acceptable to the MoD regulator is a key programme risk for any air platform, particularly for foreign military procurements relying heavily on software for flight control and navigation. With deep expertise in air safety management, Frazer-Nash’s role is to help LM gain this acceptance. Over the next five years the company will help Lockheed Martin to develop the safety cases for all variants of the JSF.
Martin Soltau, Business Manager for Frazer-Nash said “we are very excited to be partnering Lockheed Martin on this flagship programme. We won this position on the strength of our experience and the calibre of our team. It further demonstrates our leading position in airworthiness and air systems safety management”. |
