Increasingly becoming a client requirement, Environmental Management Systems (EMS) assist organisations in demonstrating that they have transparent, auditable systems in place to manage their environmental impacts. Additional pressures are felt from regulators, financiers, public pressure groups and also employees. The primary benefit of implementing an EMS is to add value to an organisation. It can also improve business performance, improve the quality of decision making, increase competitiveness, give confidence to external stakeholders (financiers, public and regulators) and increase awareness of environmental responsibilities amongst employees.

An Environmental Management System (EMS), for which ISO14001 is the International Standard, is an auditable, formal and structured process through which an organisations or projects environmental impact can be managed.
Successful environmental management requires a system that is tailored and focussed to the specific purpose whilst integrating with existing systems and practices. Frazer-Nash Consultancy can demonstrate through current and historical projects that we have an exceptional level of expertise and maintain best practice in EMS. The involvement of our staff goes back to the very beginnings of environmental management systems, through participation in the development of the British Standard BS7750. This standard was the fore-runner of ISO14001, the international standard referenced in the Secretary of State’s Environmental Policy, and on which the MOD Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS) is based.
