Aerodynamics

Frazer-Nash has a strong aerodynamic analysis team with experience of:

We have experience of many industry standard codes for turbomachinery design and utilise the FLUENT CFD code for general purpose analyses.

Engine Design

Frazer-Nash undertakes concept, prototype and production design of engine core and ancillary components, including:

  • Power Turbines
  • Compressors and Inlets
  • Combustors and Transition Ducts
  • Casings
  • Pipework and Pump Installations

We have particular expertise in design using 3-D CAD systems, including CADDS5, UNIGRAPHICS NX and ProEngineer.

Structures and Vibration

Our capabilities include structural, finite element, vibration and impact analysis for blades, casings and rotating parts. In-house codes include ABAQUS, DYNA3D, SDRC I-DEAS and SCO3. we have particular expertise in:

  • Lifing of hot components
  • Creep, fatigue, corrosion and defect tolerance
  • Failure investigation of exhaust ducts and re-design
  • Flow induced vibration analysis
  • Blast and Shock
  • Containment

Ancillary Equipment Design

Frazer-Nash undertakes concept design through to commissioning of specialist tooling and support equipment including:

  • Engine pylons for development and production
  • Bespoke strip and build tooling
  • Special purpose transfer and overturn stands

Enclosure Design

Frazer-Nash regularly undertakes the following:

  • ATEX certification assessments and re-design
  • Enclosure thermal management
  • Noise management

Test Facilities

Frazer-Nash undertakes the development of test rigs and facilities from first concept through to installation and commissioning. Our experience includes:

  • Combustor Rigs
  • Fan Blade Off Test Rigs
  • Compressor and Turbine Rigs
  • Acoustic Test Facilities

Instrumentation

We design and supply special purpose instrument systems for use in engine testing and monitoring applications, including:

  • Flow, temperature and smoke rakes
  • Traversing Mechanisms
  • Telemetry Units
  • Wiring, pipework and lead out design

Frazer-Nash provides assessment services in safety and reliability to ensure the continued operation through-life of engine components and total systems.
