As a member of Frazer-Nash's renewables technology team, I lead our technical advisory services for battery energy storage systems (BESS) and solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. These are a critical element to paving the way to a net-zero future and support balancing the national power grid.
With an MSC in Renewable Energy, I am a mechanical engineer with over 10 years’ experience in the renewables energy business. I have a solid background in BESS and solar PV technologies worldwide, with wide-ranging experience in design, development engineering support, owner’s engineering, delivery, and integration of distributed generators connected at distribution and transmission level.
Whilst I work across the full life cycle of a project, I have a passion for supporting developers in nailing down their projects from the technical and economical point of view. This helps deliver highly efficient plants and boosting revenue while reducing cost and hassle. Some of my key development project achievements include:
Technical Advisor (TA) support for one of the largest solar PV plants (1.77GW, Abu Dhabi) in the world commissioned so far.
TA for one of the largest Tesla BESS, offering ancillary services in the UK. Support for other 15 BESS projects within the same client portfolio.
Fully developed, on the grid side, more than 15 BESS (approx. 300 MWh) in the UK which are now operational.
Development engineering support for a co-located BESS (6.6MWh) in Mozambique.
Designed the first solar power plant (50 MW) built free of government subsidies.
Designed and supported during construction one of the first 5MW solar farm ever built in Scotland.
I have also a keen interest in microgrids and their social impact. In this context I have delivered a feasibility study to power main whisky distilleries in Isla and Jura in Scotland, through an independent microgrid fed by offshore wind turbines and balanced by implementing grid forming BESS.
I have also supported an NGO with technical assessment to improve living standards by providing access to electricity by implementing domestic BESS (second-life car batteries) plus PV systems in remote and rural areas in Nicaragua.
