Job Description

We are building a team of geospatial professionals who bring experience of client-side consultancy to our business.  GIS Consultants will be involved in projects and studies across many of the business areas that we service.

The role will appeal to individuals who are GIS 'savvy' and motivated to find innovative ideas that address real-world problems. The ideal candidate should be naturally curious and inquisitive, great at relationship building and enthusiastic about system design and solutions architecture in the modern business world. The role provides opportunities to work with the latest open source and proprietary GIS technology and to interact with a wide variety of organisations.

Typically this will take the form of consultancy advice, recommendations and feasibility studies on behalf of new and existing clients.  Candidates with experience of working on the architecture behind Enterprise-wide systems will be particularly attractive.

Business verticals include Geointelligence/Defence, Security, Government, Nuclear, Rail, Transport and Energy sectors.  This group of verticals is expected to grow to reflect the ubiquitous nature of geospatial technology.  Examples are UAV, Aerial Imagery, Visualisation, Earth Observation, IoT/Cloud/BigData, autonomous vehicles etc.

GIS Consultants will help drive this success though delivering high quality technical advice and systems-based problem solving. Providing expertise, guidance and support to customers in the design, configuration and implementation of Enterprise-scale business solutions.

This could involve:

  • Consulting with clients to understand requirements and  delivering compelling recommendations and research to meet those requirements
  • Estimating and delivering specified work packages to time and budget
  • Acting as a trusted technical advisor, helping to demonstrate best practice with GIS technology and growing a customer's understanding of the capabilities that modern GIS can deliver.
  • Providing technical input and guidance for business development opportunities
  • Maintaining and developing an excellent understanding of trends and innovations and how they can be used by customers to solve real-world problems


You will have a good degree in a science, computing or an engineering subject with experience gained in a technical consultative capacity.  Membership of a relevant professional body would be advantageous. 

You will need some experience or aptitude for leading or contributing to bids and tenders and ideally have an understanding of project management in a commercial environment.
