We are looking for Nuclear Safety Engineers to join our growing teams in Bristol and Gloucester.  We are keen to hear form qualified personnel that are enthusiastic about making a strong contribution to our business and supporting the activities of key clients in the nuclear energy sector. 

Multiple roles at all levels from new graduates to senior experienced staff are required to support our growing departments.

We need Nuclear Safety Engineers that can deliver for our clients, supporting complex schemes that assure the continued safe operation and longevity of existing and future nuclear assets.

The role

Working within one of our Nuclear Safety teams in Bristol or Gloucester, you will be expected to work on a wide variety of projects that ensure the continued safe operation and longevity of existing nuclear assets.  You will be involved in the full design life-cycle of projects, providing nuclear safety advice and developing practical solutions to engineering problems for our clients across the UK.  By joining our growing business, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our success by developing long term relationships with clients in the nuclear industry.

The role requires that you provide nuclear safety advice to the design, operation and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.  In addition, this will involve the development and production of nuclear safety documentation to ensure that licensees satisfy their nuclear site licence conditions.  As part of this, it will be necessary to liaise and work with operators, designers, key SQEPs, other customers, and technical experts within Frazer-Nash, building strong working relationships.

Another key aspect of the role will involve the production of bids and proposals to generate and deliver business with new and existing clients; therefore good commercial acumen is a desirable skill. 

Some of the typical activities and documentation that you will be expected to lead and deliver include the following:

  • Hazard / fault identification methods, e.g. HAZOP, FMEA;
  • Deterministic Safety Assessment
  • External Hazard Assessment
  • Structural Integrity Safety Case
  • Probabilistic Safety Assessment
  • Safety Case Preparation (EC, PoP, JCO, PCSR, etc.)
  • Engineering Substantiation
  • Fault Studies
  • Design Authority / Engineering Technical Reports and Advice Notes
  • Nuclear Safety Legislation, Regulation and Policy
  • INSA/ISA
  • AGR, PWR and BWR Technical Specifications and Procedures

We expect all staff to manage both commercial and programme aspects of the projects that they are involved with. Commercial and project management skills are therefore desired attributes but are not essential as training will be provided where required.  Some experience in business development is also desirable.

The senior roles will involve elements of supervision and coaching of other staff.

In due course and depending on seniority and experience all candidates will undertake Project Management, Bid Writing and Business Development.  All staff are trained to provide 3600 Consultancy support and as such will receive training in all of these areas and more.

The successful candidate will:

  • hold a good degree in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline;
  • be enthusiastic about their ongoing professional development, for example by being at Chartered status or working towards Chartership;
  • be able to demonstrate application of good engineering judgement and extensive experience using fundamental engineering (or other STEM) skills;
  • have a proven track record of delivering technically challenging projects;
  • demonstrate a strong background in nuclear safety assurance and hazard analysis or a desire to develop these skills from a sound basis;
  • be able to produce and review technical reports that are of a high quality;
  • be a confident communicator, able to interact with clients, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels;
  • be motivated and driven to accept responsibility for delivery to meet time, cost and quality objectives.
