The Energy Business Unit is a vibrant and growing area with a focus on delivery of high quality expertise and services across multiple energy sectors and development of staff and tools to operate within highly regulated industries. In particular, the Energy Assurance unit provides significant support to the Civil Nuclear Sector deploying engineering and safety case skills across Decommissioning, Fusion, Generation and New Build areas. It is an exciting time across all of these sectors but we are particularly prioritising the growth and development of our nuclear decommissioning engineering group. Frazer-Nash Consultancy are looking to bolster this team with talented individuals to continue to develop our service delivery and increase our support to the nuclear decommissioning market providing services in nuclear clean-up and waste management.

Our Nuclear Decommissioning and Waste Management group work on a wide range of projects for clients including Magnox, Sellafield, RWM and EDF. As such, we are looking for talented engineers with experience/knowledge of:

  • Nuclear Decommissioning – techniques/engineering challenges/safety considerations
  • Waste Management – Characterisation/treatment/packaging/transport/safety
  • Decommissioning Engineers
  • Decommissioning Safety Case Practitioners
  • Radioactive Waste Services Practitioners

We are looking for Engineers, Chemists and Physicists with the above nuclear decommissioning or waste management/storage background to grow the team. A number of roles are available for candidates with different levels of experience from Project Engineers to Technical Lead roles within large decommissioning programmes. Requirements

Successful applicants will need to meet a number of the following requirements:

  • Degree or Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry
  • A minimum of 2 years Nuclear Engineering experience, preferably within nuclear decommissioning.
  • Be Chartered in their discipline (or working towards Chartership)
  • An appreciation of nuclear decommissioning and waste management
  • Experience of client liaison/interface
  • Project Management experience (managing own projects as a minimum)
  • An appreciation of Site License rules/regulations
  • For Decommissioning Engineering roles we are looking for engineers with experience in any of the following areas:
    • Reactor Dismantling
    • Supporting R&D
    • Decommissioning waste retrieval,
    • Packaging and disposition including Asbestos, Metals and concrete
    • Experience with the ONR/EA on de-licensing
    • Waste Characterisation Programmes
    • Asset Monitoring and Inspection Programmes
    • RAM Storage/Transport Containers
    • Knowledge Management and Digital Engineering
  • For Decommissioning Safety Case roles we are looking for engineers with experience in any of the following areas:
    • Decommissioning Safety Case Oversight and Leadership
    • Safety Case / Safety Basis development and authoring,
    • Safety Legislation, Regulation and Policy,
    • Derivation of Safety Functional Requirements,
    • Hazard analysis (HAZID/HAZAN/Fault sequence assessment),
    • DBA and PSA,
    • Engineering Design Substantiation,
    • Acceptance Review Team experience.
  • The ability to lead projects and develop safety deliverables.
  • The ability to build relationships both externally with our clients and internally with our delivery teams and support functions.
  • The candidate will have an understanding of the current nuclear decommissioning market demands and the key clients.
  • The ability to identify and support business development opportunities - including the preparation of estimates, proposals, budgets and documentation.
  • The candidate will take a strong interest in understanding clients' problems and in shaping programmes of work to resolve them.
  • Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Being honourable, trustworthy, fair and honest – respecting confidentiality.

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • An in depth knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Decommissioning Safety Case and Requirements.
  • Experience of working closely with the ONR and/or government bodies.
  • Cradle to grave experience in nuclear decommissioning.
  • Nuclear Site Licence and Environmental Permit Compliance and Associated Licence/Permit Conditions & Authorisations.
  • Asset Management for Nuclear Sites
  • Understanding of nuclear waste categorisation.
  • Identification and resolution of issues and development work within the life cycle of nuclear decommissioning.
  • Experience of delivery within fast paced/high intensity programmes of work.
  • Previous experience of working within a consultancy environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Technical teams for more senior placements
  • Willingness to undergo Developed Vetting (DV) clearance process
