We are expanding fast so are looking for data scientist, operational researchers and computational modellers who can use their skillset to support our services across government, energy, defence, transport, and infrastructure sectors. At Frazer-Nash, we do things that matter for the future of society – helping to make lives safe, secure, sustainable and affordable. You will work with our teams of economists, data scientists, and other specialisms, to build bespoke models and tools to help our clients make some of their most important decisions. Some recent problems we have been working on are:
- Supporting an NHS Trust's Elective Recovery Board by modelling the flow of patients through surgical pathways to forecast future waiting times and provide evidence into the business case for a new-build facility.
- Helping energy distribution providers to identify vulnerable customers based on their smart meter usage data, and guide engineers to respond with the most appropriate support in the case of an outage.
- Developing novel machine learning approaches to forecasting: 1) an award winning project predicting the delays across the UK rail network and recommending alternative action; 2) the uncertainty (and likely decommissioning dates) in the lifetime of critical national electricity generation sites.
- Delivering the study into Space Based Solar Power (SBSP) for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) which considered the technical feasibility, cost and economics of SBSP as a novel generation technology which could help the UK achieve Net Zero.
While our team is centred around Middlesbrough, at Frazer-Nash we offer hybrid working with a mixture of home and office working. As such our team is across the North East (spread between Newcastle, Durham, Middlesbrough and Harrogate), coming together for a couple of days a week in our new Middlesbrough office.

Requirements
We are looking for candidates who can bring diversity of thought, fresh ideas and relatable experience to society’s issues.
The ideal candidate will have experience building models, simulations or carrying out detailed numerical assessments of complex problems, alongside experience of:
- Understanding and digesting customer problems to understand the nature and extent of the task.
- Taking responsibility for the conception and development of an approach to solving client’s problems.
- Using data science tools and techniques to deliver solutions, such as one or more of: discrete event simulation, agent-based modelling, Bayesian networks, optimisation algorithms, statistical methods, probabilistic forecasting or machine learning.
- Programming in one or more languages.
- Effective communication of complex project outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences.
