Job Description

At Frazer-Nash we do things that matter for the future of society - helping to make lives safe, secure, sustainable, and affordable. You will work with our teams of high performing data scientists (and other specialists) to build bespoke models and analytical tools, helping clients make some of their most important decisions.

Our strategic modelling capability supports clients with the following services:

  • Strategy and policy development
  • Scenario planning and strategy simulations
  • Analysis for complex business cases
  • Cost, risk and benefits modelling
  • Business design, architecture and optimisation

The team is highly collaborative, often working alongside experts in economics, behavioural psychology, complex programmes and digital systems.

Recent projects include:

  • Delivering the study into Space Based Solar Power (SBSP) for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), which considered the technical feasibility, cost and economics of SBSP as a novel generation technology which could help the UK achieve Net Zero.
  • Developing a Bayesian network probabilistic cost model (with an accompanying secure web application) to support the business case for a multi Billion pound major national infrastructure programme.
  • Delivering a geospatial web application tool to an electricity distribution network operator that calculates economic inequality metrics to help support customer groups in greatest need.
  • Developing novel machine learning approaches to forecasting: 1) an award winning project predicting the delays across the UK rail network and recommending better routes to save time and cost; 2) the uncertainty (and likely decommissioning dates) in the lifetime of critical national low carbon electricity generation sites, helping support low carbon generation.

We are looking for candidates who can bring diversity of thought, fresh ideas, and relatable experience to society's next challenges.

Our ideal candidates will have experience of:

  • Delivering modelling projects into government departments / public sector in support of policy or strategy challenges.
  • Structured thinking and ability to architect solutions to a complex problem.
  • Using data science tools and techniques to deliver more effective and innovative solutions, such as: discrete event simulation, agent-based modelling, Bayesian networks, system dynamics, optimisation algorithms, statistical analysis, probabilistic forecasting, machine learning.
  • Programming in multiple languages
  • Taking responsibility for the success of modelling projects and leading teams.
  • Communicating the conclusions of strategic modelling projects to both technical and non-technical audiences in presentations and reports with a high attention to detail.
  • Building trusted relationships with clients.
  • Supporting business development activities and writing successful proposals.
  • Being confident running workshops and presenting to large audiences.
  • Building bespoke visualisations / dashboards.
  • Economic assessments or business case development.
  • Developing strategy papers and delivering strategic advice to CxO level clients
  • Developing software applications or web apps using modern best practices.

We are also interested if you have some of the following skills:

Even if you don't quite fit our criteria above (perhaps you have other interesting or broad experience?), we would love to hear from you if you think that you could deliver effective solutions to the types of projects mentioned above. We are interested in hearing from experienced modellers, but fundamentally we want structured thinkers with a passion for delivering effective solutions to some of society's biggest problems.

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
