News & Events-Frazer-Nash ensures the ongoing safe operation of Dunlin Alpha

Engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash has been awarded a contract by Fairfield Energy to undertake an assessment of certain topside production systems of the Dunlin Alpha platform.

This is a concrete gravity platform of the Condeep type with four legs and decommissioned oil storage. The topsides facilities include production of meter and pump oil, along with the capability to drill and inject water to maintain reservoir pressure.

Dunlin was originally designed for thirty years operation which has now been exceeded and the operators are seeking to secure the operating life of the platform for another decade.

Frazer-Nash has been contracted to provide analysis support to assess the integrity of certain topside production systems against the latest standards for flow induced vibration insured by the Energy Institute. The contract also encompasses industry standard code assessments for topside pipework

Gordon O'Brien, Marine Business Director for Frazer-Nash commented: "We are delighted to be supporting Fairfield Energy on such an important project. Ensuring the ongoing safe operation of Dunlin Alpha is a top priority for Fairfield Energy, and they naturally wanted to find a company with the expertise to undertake a job of this kind.  Our work, which will be led by our Aberdeen based team, will ultimately provide a thorough assessment of the pipe systems, and if we do find any potential problems, will enable us to determine the best solution.

"We've already established ourselves as a key supplier of advanced technology to major companies in the oil and gas sector, but this contract win will further enhance our understanding and knowledge of the range of problems our customers face.
