News & Events - Frazer-Nash builds its Australian engineering analysis team

New joiner, Alan Harrland set to strengthen Frazer-Nash's Australian computational fluid dynamics (CFD) capability.

Complex Fluid Flow expert Alan Harrland has joined Frazer-Nash's Australian operations. Based in Adelaide, his appointment is set to strengthen the company's engineering capability, particularly in complex fluid and thermal modelling techniques.

Phil Harris, Manager of Frazer-Nash's Australian business, said:

"Alan's skills will help strengthen our business and provide further value to our local clients. His appointment is part of our strategy to build a local advanced engineering analysis team, whilst also being able to reach back to our UK capabilities for additional support.

He'll be spending some time on secondment in the UK to learn about our existing capability and our considerable project portfolio that we've developed over many years. This activity will be invaluable to Alan as we work to build our local business here in Australia."

Alan joins Frazer-Nash from The Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO), where he was a research scientist.

Whilst with the DSTO, Alan undertook extensive modelling and simulation to support the analysis of the interior ballistics of guns, including the software tool, Casbar. His experience will be invaluable for ballistics modelling using Frazer-Nash's own FNGun software. He was also lead scientist for a research project focussed on the development of tools to assess ignition rocket motor ignition efficiency.

Prior to working for DSTO, Alan specialised in complex heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) design.

Alan comments:

"I thoroughly enjoy the challenges of mechanical engineering, both technical and professional. I am particularly passionate about the application of numerical techniques in the solution of complex fluid flows. I'm very much looking forward to working with Frazer-Nash's diverse set of clients."
