News & Events - Frazer-Nash joins celebrations as HMS Artful commissioned

Representatives from Frazer-Nash joined Royal Navy officers and ship's company today at the official commissioning ceremony for HMS Artful.

The ceremony was held at Her Majesty's Naval Base Clyde, where the vessel's sponsor, Lady Amanda Zambellas, formally welcomed Artful into the fleet in front of the crew, their family members, and around 500 invited guests.

Guests at the event received a Commissioning Book, which records the life of the submarine from launch to commissioning, and reflects on the achievements of the people involved in that process.

Frazer-Nash Director, Chris Edwards, said: "We were delighted to be present at the commissioning ceremony, and to see HMS Artful officially enter service with the Royal Navy."

In build, Frazer-Nash has been providing support to the supply chain for HMS Artful, including in design and assurance. In addition to undertaking independent safety assurance on the vessel, the Frazer-Nash team has provided safety and environmental consultancy to the submarines' programme.

As a member of the Submarine Support Management Group (SSMG), Frazer-Nash is part of a consortium that provides in-service support to all boats in service with the Royal Navy, and thus will be supporting the submarine throughout its life.

HMS Artful left the construction yard at Barrow-in-Furness in August 2015, and underwent sea trials before being officially handed over to the Royal Navy in December 2015.
