Engineering consultancy Frazer-Nash is supporting the Department of Defence in its research efforts to enhance the performance and resilience of Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel to operate in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) environments.

Frazer-Nash has been engaged by the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG*) on a project to identify innovative, human-centric technologies that can have a positive impact on the cognitive and physical performance of personnel operating in CBRN environments, and ultimately enhance the ADF’s CBRN capability.

This project supports one of Defence’s eight STaR Shots** which address significant military challenges critical to the security of Australia. STaR Shots help to ensure that investment in science and technology creates the capabilities Defence needs by identifying and driving innovative pathways, from fundamental research and development through to prototyping and transition into capability.

Frazer-Nash Consultant Harriet Slack said:

"Ultimately this project will support the identification of future technologies with promise to enhance the resilience of defence personnel to operate in CBRN environments. Working at the cutting edge with the DSTG team is exciting as we strive to enhance our ADF’s capacity to operate effectively in such challenging environments."

**STaR Shots (where STaR stands for Science, Technology and Research) aim to deliver leap-ahead new capabilities into the hands of the ADF and collectively support the overarching objective of equipping Defence to prevail in contested present and future environments.

*DSTG is the lead group within the Department of Defence responsible for delivering scientific advice and solutions that provide capability enhancement for Defence and national security.
