Frazer-Nash Engineering Manager, Graham Hawkes, has been successful in his application for a Visiting Professorship (VP) grant, through the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Commencing in January 2021, the three-year post will see Graham supporting undergraduate students within Surrey University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, with a remit of helping develop engineering collaboration, communication and technical advisory skills.
Graham will join Dave Richards and David McNaught, whose appointments to VP roles were announced in October, in delivering support to students through the Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professorships.
Working alongside his academic champion, Dr Michael Pekris, who has previously collaborated with Frazer-Nash on turbomachinery projects, Graham commented of the opportunity:
“I’m delighted to be taking up my Visiting Professorship post, and look forward to sharing notes with Dave Richards and David McNaught in their respective roles. As a trio, we will share insights to the Royal Academy’s scheme that we have derived from across our respective backgrounds in design, systems engineering and analysis. The fact that we can offer this range of inputs into the scheme itself a testament to Frazer-Nash’s depth and breadth of skills.
“Prior to joining Frazer-Nash, I spent four years teaching undergraduates, so this is a great opportunity for me to get involved again, and I’m sure I’ll learn something in the process, too.”
Dr Michael Pekris commented:
“It is a pleasure to welcome Graham to the academic team at Surrey as Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor. Graham brings unique skills and considerable experience that will enhance our students’ educational experience here in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences, as well as their future employability. We are grateful to the Royal Academy of Engineering for this opportunity, and look forward to a fruitful period of collaboration with Graham and Frazer-Nash Consultancy.”
