We welcome the UK Government’s signing of the Hamburg Declaration: the historic clean energy security pact with European leaders which will secure 100GW of offshore wind power through clean energy projects built jointly by UK and EU companies. These will include new ‘offshore wind hybrid assets’: wind farms at sea that are directly connected to more than one country through interconnectors.

In an era of global instability, the pact will bolster energy security, powering homes and businesses across the continent. The announcement comes after the UK’s recent record-breaking offshore wind auction: 8.4GW of new offshore wind capacity allocated Contracts for Difference, with the potential to power just under 10 million homes and attract over 22 billion GBP in new private investment to the UK’s economy.

Nial Greeves, Market Director, Energy and Infrastructure at Frazer-Nash Consultancy said: “As a company with a strong track record in effecting transformation and positive collaboration in the wind sector, we welcome this announcement to build significant numbers of new offshore windfarms across Europe. This represents a major step towards a genuinely integrated energy system, and we are proud that the UK is leading the way.”

“It is really encouraging to see this commitment to maximise resource efficiency, share  infrastructure and improve supply chain co-operation because this will reduce cost for consumers and businesses across the continent.”

“We feel rightly proud that the UK is a world-leader in offshore wind, and at Frazer-Nash we stand ready to apply our technical expertise in wind to help the UK Government, our clients and supply chain partners to drive clean energy generation, enabling greater energy security and continued economic growth.”
