News & Events-Framework success for Frazer-Nash as NDA seeks innovative solutions

Frazer-Nash Consultancy has been awarded a place on three Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) research and development framework contracts, as the public body seeks innovative solutions to technical challenges.

Ten consortia consisting of over 70 organisations, including universities, global corporations and SMEs, have been awarded a share of the framework contracts. Frazer-Nash is part of three successful consortia, supporting the National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) across all three of the available 'lots':

  • Lot A: University Interactions1
  • Lot B: Integrated Waste Management and Site Decommissioning and Remediation2
  • Lot C: Spent Fuels and Nuclear Materials.2

Last awarded in 2012, the NDA contracts will cover the next two years, with the option for NDA to extend them for a further two years.

Worth up to £12 million, the framework contracts support the NDA's delivery of its Direct Research Portfolio (DRP), which focuses on direct funding for research that delivers innovation across multiple sites, develops technical expertise and informs strategy.3

The DRP contracts will also address cross-industry research and development requirements identified by the Nuclear Waste and Decommissioning Research Forum.

1 For Lot A, 'University Interactions', which supports the NDA's University Research Strategy, Frazer-Nash will be working with NNL to provide supervision to PhD students.

Nuclear Business Manager, Robert Stuchbury, explains: "The Frazer-Nash supervisors have gained their knowledge from working across a broad range of sectors, including nuclear, so they will look to bring new ideas from other areas that can inform research in this area.

"They will be able to offer both extensive technical expertise, and experience of delivering innovation within commercial and regulatory environments, to support the NDA's research objectives."

2 Frazer-Nash is also a leading partner within two of the consortia for the Lot B and C frameworks, which support four of NDA's strategic themes researching 'Integrated Waste Management and Site Decommissioning and Remediation' and 'Spent Fuels and Nuclear Materials' respectively.

Frazer-Nash is part of the Lot B group led by Galson Sciences Ltd, and of the Lot C group headed up by NNL.
