News & Events-Safe, responsible engineering at ESAS 2016

Frazer-Nash is a gold sponsor for the 2016 Environmental and Safety Assurance Symposium (ESAS), taking place on 22 and 23 June in Bristol.

ESAS 2016 will see over 500 attendees from the Ministry of Defence (MOD), industry and academia come together for the Defence Equipment and Support's (DE&S) flagship symposium. The event will include the launch of two new awards, for innovation in safety and environmental management.

Within the theme of this year's event, 'Engineering for Defence: Safely and Responsibly', delegates will consider topics such as setting evidenced-based regulation, autonomous systems, cyber/safe and secure systems, sustainability, in-service safety management and the workings of the Coroner's court.

Technical Department Head, Jason Harris, who leads on safety and environmental management said:

"We're looking forward to attending and contributing to the discussion at ESAS 2016, sharing information across the sector.

"On Thursday 23 June, experts from Frazer-Nash will be presenting, chairing and leading workshops. In the morning, Mandy Gore will deliver a presentation titled 'Marine Life Fights Back', while Rob Leary and David Wyse will talk about 'Solving the SS Richard Montgomery Problem with Innovation and Collaboration'.

"In the afternoon, Ian Tarplee will lead a workshop asking 'Is it practical for project teams to aim for the Best Practicable Environmental Option (BPEO)?' while Mike Stubbings will chair Topic 7, cyber/safe and secure systems."

ESAS 2016 also sees the introduction of two new safety and environmental management awards. Presentations, to an individual or team, will be based on the following award categories:

  • Innovation in Safety, to be given by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and
  • Innovation in Environmental Management, awarded by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

There will be one award for MOD, and one award for industry in each category.
