News & Events-Phil offers overview of UK nuclear regulation to overseas delegates

Frazer-Nash's Phil Rogers recently presented an overview of UK nuclear regulation to overseas investors and their suppliers at the 2017 Civil Nuclear Showcase

The Showcase was held at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel in London from 28 February to 1 March and brought together Governments, investors, technology owners, developers and regulators from around the world.  Phil contributed with a presentation titled 'UK Regulatory Structure and Process' on 1 March, which covered a broad spectrum of the concepts of UK Nuclear Regulation.

Describing the aims of his talk, Phil said:

"My presentation aimed to give a 'bite-sized' introduction to the UK nuclear regulatory regime, suitable for those new to the UK systems. It covered the legal framework, the Generic Design Assessment process and lessons learned from it, and the common thread that underpins UK regulatory requirements - the safety case.

"With investors keen to develop projects in the UK nuclear sector, and the valuable contribution this will make to the economy and to energy supplies, it's essential that we help them and their suppliers to negotiate the requirements - so they too can understand and uphold the principles of regulation in the UK."

Phil's presentation was part of a country briefing to Chinese delegates at the Civil Nuclear Showcase. The showcase, organised by the UK Department for International Trade attracted delegates from around the globe, including China, Central and Eastern Europe, France, Japan, Turkey and the United States. Providing insights into the civil nuclear marketplace, the event aimed to connect the industry with key stakeholders, and featured a wide range of trade and investment opportunities across the nuclear life cycle.
