Job Title: Nuclear Analyst

Salary range: £35,000 to £50,000 per annum

Location: Gloucester, Bristol or Plymouth (flexible hybrid working, with time split between the office, client sites and working from home)

Closing date for this role is 17th May but we encourage early applications

Our Nuclear Technology team provide technical analysis services to the current and next generation of nuclear reactors, fusion reactors, and the wider energy industry.

We help our customers understand physical systems through data investigations and modelling, and work with them to resolve their operational problems, optimise the design of new systems, and demonstrate that safe operation will be achieved.

We are looking for people with a keen interest in the nuclear and wider energy industry to join our team as we grow to meet the future energy industry demands. We are open to applicants at the early stages of their career or with some experience in industry.

As a Nuclear Technology Analyst you will be well supported in developing skills to:

• Communicate with our customers, understand their requirements, and develop plans to deliver their desired outcomes.

• Apply analytical techniques, simulation tools and cutting edge data science practices to understand physical phenomena, the performance of real engineering systems and the associated uncertainty.

• Communicate complex concepts and results to our customers in a way that they can be readily understood.

Frazer-Nash empowers its staff to manage the delivery of the project themselves at an early stage in their careers. Therefore, as your career progresses, you will also get the opportunity to:

• Develop skills in management of all aspects of technical projects, including client communication, project delivery and managing other project staff.

• Understand how we develop new business by responding to enquiries and writing bids, and also representing Frazer-Nash at client meetings, conferences and seminars.

Our projects are very diverse and can last from a few weeks to many years of sustained support. Typically, our people are involved in multiple projects at any one time giving a good variety of work.

Technical disciplines applied in the team include neutronics and core physics, data science, statistical analysis, materials science, thermal modelling, fluids mechanics, support to structural assessment and safety case authoring. However, we are always looking to strengthen and diversify our capabilities and you will have the opportunity to help shape our future skills and services.

Requirements

The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:

• An understanding of the practical application of analysis and/or data science, gained from a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics or related discipline, or a similar level of training.

• An aptitude to develop skills in applying analysis, simulation and data interpretation techniques to engineering problems, varying from performing hand calculations to developing complex simulation / analytical models or the statistical analysis of data.

• Have an interest in and an understanding of the nuclear and/or the wider energy industry.

• Be a strong team player but with the ability to work independently.

• Excellent communication skills.

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

• Experience in delivery of analysis to support the nuclear or wider energy industry.

• Experience in the interpretation and analysis of large or complex data sets, including statistical and uncertainty analysis.

• Experience of coding using python, MATLAB or other relevant software languages to support or optimise analysis or simulation.

• Experience in writing proposals, client liaison and business development

• Relevant post-graduate degree.

• Have, or working towards, Chartered Engineer status

Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
