Office locations considered - Bristol, Glasgow and Warrington offices

Closing date is 12th August however we encourage early applications.

Salary range is £35,000 - £45,000pa depending on experience

We deliver high value consultancy services to a key civil nuclear client, working on projects that matter and which support the UK’s ambitions to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

The groups primarily work to solve complex problems related to the continued safe operation and longevity of existing nuclear assets and support the safe defueling and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. The groups also support clients across the wider nuclear industry including new build projects and small modular reactor design.

A high demand for these services means we are now seeking new members of the team, to be based in either our Bristol, Glasgow or Warrington offices.

The role requires that you contribute to providing advice to the design, operation, defueling and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.

The types of projects you could contribute to include:

  • Using structural assessment techniques such as finite element modelling to determine if a nuclear component can safely continue in operation, and to work with the client to recommend alternative solutions if it is not;
  • Walking down a system at a power station to identify potential hazards and then assessing the impact of the findings on the continued operation of the plant. Working with the regulatory body to ensure they approve of the way the hazards are controlled;
  • Developing software to analyse the movements of fuel within the reactor to ensure the fuel is used in the most efficient manner, thus minimising nuclear waste.

By joining our growing business, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our success by being involved in the full life cycle of projects from concept phase and bidding, through project management and delivery, to project close out.

You will engage directly with the client during all project phases, and will be supported through training and mentoring tailored to your needs and experience.

The role involves some site based working (typically a power station or the client’s technical head office) and hence you must be willing to spend time on our client’s sites. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands on plant experience and to thoroughly understand our client’s culture.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering high quality technical documentation;
  • Producing high quality proposals and bids;
  • Building and managing enduring client relationships;
  • Managing projects to ensure they meet quality, time and cost expectations.

We expect the applicant to have the following attributes:

  • Be proactive and entrepreneurial with an instinct for growth;
  • Work well as part of a team;
  • Be commercially astute;
  • Be a confident communicator, able to interact with clients, colleagues and stakeholders;
  • Be motivated and driven to accept responsibility for delivery to meet time, cost and quality objectives.

Requirements

You should have a degree in a relevant discipline and good experience working in a related role in industry. Degree subjects of particular interest are General, Mechanical, Nuclear, Process or Chemical Engineering although other areas will be considered.

Your experience should also include:

  • Working in the nuclear industry, or another highly regulated industry;
  • Contributing to written documentation with significant technical content;
  • Actively working, or a strong desire, to achieve chartership.

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • An understanding of the nuclear safety case process or the structure and development of safety cases;
  • Knowledge of or an interest in defueling or decommissioning;
  • Experience working with or on nuclear plant;
  • Experience working on design based or multi-disciplinary based projects;
  • Experience developing new business in a consultancy or similar environment.
